Mount Holly is a smaller town on the east side of Gaston County, right on the Catawba River between Belmont and Gastonia. It's been picking up growth as the Charlotte commuter wave pushes further into Gaston County, and that means more clearing work — overgrown residential lots getting cleaned up, new construction parcels being prepped, and river-adjacent properties that need brush taken back. We're A&S Brushworks, owned and run by Corey and Sam out of Rock Hill, SC. Mount Holly is about 40 to 45 minutes from our yard.
Mount Holly has a mix of older neighborhoods near the river and newer development pushing outward. The older areas tend to have mature trees and thick understory that's been growing unchecked on the back halves of lots. The newer areas have raw wooded parcels that builders need prepped before they can start. Either way, the Kubota SVL 97-3 with our FAE forestry mulcher head handles it — material up to 8 inches in diameter, mulched in place, no burn piles, no haul-off.
River-Adjacent Properties and Older Neighborhoods
Mount Holly's position on the Catawba River means a lot of properties back up to the water or to the wooded floodplain along it. These river-adjacent lots tend to have dense growth running right up to the back of the yard — sweetgum, privet, wild cherry, and the usual Piedmont mix of vine-tangled undergrowth. Owners who want to reclaim that ground or open up access to the river are the ones calling us.
Forestry mulching works well on river-adjacent land for the same reasons it works on lakefront: the root systems stay in the ground, which holds the soil on slopes and near the waterline. We're not pulling stumps and leaving bare clay for the next rain to wash downhill. The mulcher takes the above-ground material down and leaves a clean layer of chips that protects the soil surface and breaks down over time.
In the older Mount Holly neighborhoods closer to downtown, the jobs tend to be smaller — a half-acre lot where the back fence line is buried in brush, or a side yard that hasn't been maintained since the previous owner. These are quick jobs, usually a half day to a day, and the difference is immediate.
New Growth and Site Prep
Mount Holly is growing. New residential development is pushing into areas that were wooded or agricultural a few years ago, and builders need those parcels cleared before they can start grading. We do site prep work for smaller builders — clearing the building footprint, opening driveway access, and taking down the understory without stripping the topsoil the way a bulldozer would.
The FAE mulcher head grinds stumps flush to the ground, so there's no separate stump removal step. The builder comes in behind us to a site that's ready for grading with the topsoil still intact. For residential lots in the 1-to-3-acre range, this is a faster and cleaner approach than bringing in a dozer and a burn crew.
Pricing for Mount Holly Properties
Pricing runs $1,500 to $5,000 per acre. Mount Holly jobs tend to be similar to Belmont — smaller residential lots, moderate density, good access. A half-acre lot with light-to-medium brush is at the lower end of the range. A couple of acres of heavier growth or a river-slope clearing with access challenges will push higher. We quote flat-rate per acre, no hourly billing.
Call or text (336) 467-4572 with the address, rough acreage, and a few photos if you have them. We can usually give you a number the same day. For anything complicated or steep we'll schedule a walk-through at no charge.
Questions about Mount Holly jobs
Yes, and forestry mulching is well-suited for it. The mulcher takes down the above-ground brush and small trees but leaves root systems in the ground, which holds the soil on slopes near the river. No bare dirt, no erosion risk from stump pulling. We've done this kind of work throughout east Gaston County on properties along the Catawba.
Our standard pricing is $1,500 to $5,000 per acre. Most Mount Holly residential jobs — a half-acre to two acres of moderate brush — fall in the low-to-middle part of that range. We quote flat-rate per acre after reviewing photos or walking the property. Call (336) 467-4572.
Yes. We clear building footprints, driveway lines, and understory for residential builders in the Mount Holly area. The mulcher grinds stumps flush so the site is ready for grading without a separate removal step, and the topsoil stays intact. Send us the lot address and we'll quote it.
