Land Clearing in Union, SC (Not Union County, NC)

By Corey, Owner of A&S Brushworks··6 min read

If you're searching for land clearing in Union, SC, there's a good chance you've already run into results for Union County, North Carolina — which is a completely different place, about 40 miles west of here. Union County, NC is suburban Charlotte sprawl. Union, South Carolina is rural timber and hunting country in the Upstate. Two very different areas, two very different kinds of jobs.

A&S Brushworks is based in Rock Hill, SC, and we serve both sides of the state line. But this page is about Union, South Carolina — the town and surrounding Union County, SC. If that's where your property is, keep reading.

Where Union SC Is and How We Get There

Union, SC sits about 50 to 60 miles east of Rock Hill, depending on which part of the county you're in. It's a straight shot on SC-49 or a combination of highways through Chester. Drive time is roughly an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes.

Like our Cherokee County work, we batch Union County jobs when possible. If we've got one or two projects in the area, we'll schedule them back to back to make the trip efficient. The earlier you get on our calendar, the easier it is to group your job with other Union County work.

We run a Kubota SVL 97-3 with an FAE forestry mulching head — a tracked skid steer that handles trees up to 8 inches in diameter and grinds everything into ground-level mulch. One machine, one pass, no hauling.

The Land Around Union: Timber Country and Hunting Tracts

Union County, SC is timber country. You've got planted pine stands, mixed hardwood and pine forests, and a lot of acreage that's managed for hunting or timber production. The Broad River runs through the area, and a lot of the properties along it have rich bottomland that grows thick and fast.

The jobs we do in Union County tend to be larger than typical suburban clearing. We're talking 5, 10, 20 acres or more — not quarter-acre lots. Property owners out here are clearing for food plots, opening up timber stands, reclaiming pasture that's grown up, or creating access through large wooded tracts.

This is land that responds well to forestry mulching. The regrowth in this part of the state — pines, sweetgum, privet, and thick understory brush — is exactly what our mulching head is built for. We grind it down, leave the mulch on the ground, and you've got usable land again.

Broad River Corridor Properties

The Broad River corridor through Union County has some of the most productive land in the area, and also some of the most overgrown. Bottomland along the river grows vegetation fast, and if a property hasn't been maintained for a few years, you can lose access to acres of otherwise good land.

We've worked on properties near the Broad River where the undergrowth was so dense you couldn't walk 20 feet in. After mulching, the same ground is open, walkable, and ready for whatever the owner has planned — whether that's planting, building, or simply being able to see and use the property.

One thing to note: wet ground near the river can affect scheduling. Our tracked machine handles soft ground better than wheeled equipment, but there are times when we need to wait for drier conditions. We'll be upfront about that when we assess the site.

Pricing for Union County SC Projects

Our standard range is $1,500 to $5,000 per acre. Where your project falls depends on what's growing, how thick it is, the terrain, and total acreage. Larger jobs get better per-acre rates — clearing 10 acres is significantly cheaper per acre than clearing one.

For the kind of work typical in Union County — medium-density pine and hardwood regrowth on rolling to flat ground — most jobs fall in the $2,000 to $3,500 per acre range. Dense bottomland with heavy undergrowth and larger trees pushes toward the upper end.

We don't charge a separate trip fee for Union County, but the drive time is factored into our scheduling. Getting your quote request in early gives us the best chance to group your job efficiently.
